This cover is postmarked on 10 October 1975 in Paarl, marking the inauguration of the Afrikaans Language Monument. It carries the South Africa commemorative stamp depicting the monument, SAPO [number to confirm], paired with a facsimile reproduction of the first ever issue of Die Afrikaanse Patriot, printed on 15 January 1876. The date is a deliberate one, since the monument's opening fell exactly one hundred years after the founding of the Genootskap van Regte Afrikaners (Society of Real Afrikaners) in Paarl, the group behind that very first Afrikaans newspaper. The monument itself, designed by Jan van Wijk, uses its tapering granite columns to represent the different influences on the Afrikaans language, from its European roots to its African context.
Description of the Cachet
There's no separate illustrated cachet on this cover; the design instead uses embossed gold foil lettering directly on the envelope, reading "AFRIKAANS", "DIT IS ONS ERNS" (this is our earnest concern), and a small gold emblem of the Afrikaans Language Monument itself, its tapering granite spires rendered in outline.

"DIE AFRIKAANSE PATRIOT." Een Afrikaanse koerant! Wie het dit ooit gedroom! Ja, Afrikaanders! een koerant in ons eie taal! Dit het baiang moeite gekos om so vêr te kom; dit kan ek julle verseker, want die meeste Afrikaanders is nes steeks pêrde, hulle wil mos nie glo dat ons een eie taal het nie. Die ou'e Patriotte hou vas, en klou vas, an die Hollans taal; die jong mense vind die Engelse taal weer so danig mooi, en o'ertui'e gaat net so moeilik, as om steeks pêrde te leer pronk in die voortuig. Ons wil nou met ons "Patriot" an die wêreld wys, dat ons wel de'entlik een taal het waarin ons kan sê net wat ons wil. "AFRIKAANSE PATRIOT," Ja, dit is die naam van ons blad! Een beter naam kan ons nooit kry nie, want een "Patriot" is een flukse vent, en so wil ons ons koerant ook maak: klein, maar fluks. Op die 15 van ider maand kan julle een besoek van die "Patriot" verwag, en ek is seker, hoe meer julle hom lees, hoe liewer julle hom sal kry. En hoe meer intekenaars julle vêr hom sal besorge, hoe meer julle dankbaarheid sal betoon! Ek sê: teken in! dis mar 5 sielings in die jaar!
