Cachet: The cachet is bold and graphic, built around a black cross rising from an orange and yellow sunburst pattern across the top of the panel. The word "SANSSA" appears in large blue lettering beside the cross, with the organisation's full name curving around the sunburst in small black text. Below this a red panel shows an illustration of a woman reading from a book to four children, two of them kneeling with hands raised in prayer, in a simple flat colour style typical of the period. The dates "1915-1990" appear beneath the illustration, with the anniversary explained in both Afrikaans and English along the bottom edge of the cover.

THE 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF SANSSA The South African National Sunday School Association, SANSSA, was founded in 1915 when a group of men and women met together in Port Elizabeth to establish an interdenominational organization to promote Sunday-school work in the various churches in Southern Africa. SANSSA remains dedicated to the principles of its founders and seeks to encourage effective Bible teaching in both Sunday school and church. Over three thousand Sunday-school teachers are trained each year at SANSSA training courses held in the various parts of Southern Africa. SANSSA's programmes for promoting Sunday-school work operate through some sixty local committees (known as SANSSA branches) located throughout the country. Leadership and teacher training are provided by way of courses, meetings and workshops. Conferences are arranged annually for inspiration and instruction. This also serves to maintain contact and cooperation with the various denominations and organizations involved in similar work. Distribution of lesson material and other aids is undertaken and research into various facets of Christian education is conducted from time to time, as the need may arise. SANSSA also seeks to promote the observance of National Sunday-school Day and through the medium of the Christian and secular press. The SANSSA regional offices coordinate the work in the various regions, with staff members available to provide advice and guidance to Sunday-school leaders and teachers of all language groups and races. Membership of SANSSA is open to any Christian Sunday school and individual. SANSSA DIE 75STE BESTAANSJAAR VAN SANSSA Die Suid-Afrikaanse Nasionale Sondagskoolassosiasie, SANSSA, het in 1915 tot stand gekom toe 'n groep manne en vroue in Port Elizabeth vergader het om 'n interkerklike organisasie te stig om Sondagskoolwerk in die onderskeie kerke in Suider-Afrika te bevorder. SANSSA bly steeds toegewy aan die beginsels van sy stigters en beywer hom daarvoor om doeltreffende Bybelonderrig in die Sondagskool sowel as die kerk aan te moedig. Meer as drieduisend Sondagskoolonderwysers word jaarliks opgelei by SANSSA se opleidingskursusse wat op verskeie plekke in Suider-Afrika aangebied word. SANSSA se programme vir die bevordering van Sondagskoolwerk word deur ongeveer sestig plaaslike komitees (bekend as SANSSA-takke) dwarsdeur die land behartig. Die opleiding van leiers en onderwysers geskied deur kursusse, byeenkomste en werksessies. Elke jaar word konferensies gereël met die oog op samewerking behou met die verskillende kerkgenootskappe en organisasies wat met soortgelyke werk besig is. Lesmateriaal en ander hulpmiddels word versprei en van tyd tot tyd word navorsing gedoen t.o.v. verskeie fasette van die Christelike onderwys soos die behoefte mag ontstaan. SANSSA beywer hom ook vir die viering van die Nasionale Sondagskooldag om sodoende Sondagskoolwerk te bevorder en maak ook gebruik van die Christelike en sekulêre pers vir dié doel. SANSSA-streekkantore koördineer die werk in die onderskeie streke en personeel is beskikbaar om raad en leiding te bied aan Sondagskoolleiers en onderwysers uit alle taal- en rasgroepe. SANSSA-lidmaatskap is oop vir alle Christelike Sondagskole en individue.

This cover is postmarked on 22 May 1990 in Port Elizabeth and marks the 75th anniversary of the South African National Sunday School Association. The stamp affixed is South Africa's 1990 National Stamp Day issue, itself a tribute to the 1853 Cape of Good Hope Four Pence, one of the country's earliest and most famous postage stamps. SANSSA was founded in Port Elizabeth in 1915 by a group of men and women seeking to establish an interdenominational organisation for Sunday school work, and by the time of this anniversary the association was training more than three thousand Sunday school teachers annually through around sixty branches across the country.
