This cover was postmarked on 30 June 1995 at Addo and catalogued as SAPO 6.20. Its cachet featured elephants, a direct reference to the nearby Addo Elephant National Park. Addo was established in 1931 to protect just eleven surviving elephants in the region and by the 1990s had grown into one of South Africa's most successful conservation stories.
Description of the Cachet
The cachet shows a detailed pencil drawing of an adult elephant and calf, the calf drinking water while the adult's trunk rests gently beside it, both rendered in fine cross hatching against a softly shaded background. Below the illustration, the bilingual title "Toerisme - Oos Kaap / Tourism - Eastern Cape" appears in brown script, with the Addo postmark featuring a small elephant outline alongside the date.
