This cover is postmarked between 18 and 23 January 1982 in Pretoria. It marks the tenth AETFAT congress, the first held on the African continent, bringing together botanists from Africa, Europe and America to discuss taxonomy and related fields. The stamp depicts Protea cynaroides, the king protea, designed by Dick Findlay.

CONGRÈS DE L'AETFAT 1982 L'Association pour l'Étude Taxonomique de la Flore d'Afrique Tropicale (AETFAT) tâche d'encourager l'étude de la botanique en Afrique tropicale et à Madagascar. L'accent est mis sur la taxonomie mais les travaux couvrent aussi d'autres disciplines telles que l'anatomie, la cytotaxonomie, la palynologie et la phytosociologie. L'AETFAT a pour but de faciliter les contacts entre les chercheurs d'autres pays qui travaillent dans les domaines cités ci-dessus. Afin d'aider à atteindre cet objectif, l'AETFAT organise tous les 3-4 ans un congrès où des procès-verbaux sur le progrès des travaux de recherche sont présentés. Le dixième congrès de l'AETFAT aura lieu à Pretoria du 18 au 23 janvier 1982. C'est la première fois que l'AETFAT se réunira en Afrique. Des délégués de plusieurs pays d'Afrique, d'Europe et d'Amérique y assisteront. AETFAT CONGRESS 1982 The Association for the Taxonomic Study of the Flora of Tropical Africa (AETFAT) strives to encourage the study of botany in tropical Africa and Madagascar. Taxonomy is stressed but other disciplines such as anatomy, cytotaxonomy, palynology and phytosociology are also covered. AETFAT aims to facilitate personal contact between research workers who live in different countries and who do research in the above-mentioned fields. In order to help accomplish this aim a congress is organized every three to four years where reports on research progress are presented. The tenth AETFAT congress will be held in Pretoria from 18 to 23 January 1982. This is the first time an AETFAT congress will be held in Africa and delegates from many African countries, Europe and America will attend. AETFAT-KONGRES 1982 Die Genootskap vir die Taksonomiese Studie van die Flora van Tropiese Afrika (AETFAT) beywer hom om die studie van botanie in tropiese Afrika en Madagaskar te bevorder. Die klem val op taksonomie, maar ander dissiplines soos anatomie, sitotaksonomie, palinologie en fitososiologie word ook gedek. AETFAT stel hom dit ten doel om persoonlike kontak te bewerkstellig tussen navorsers wat in verskillende lande woon en navorsing op bogenoemde terreine doen. Om hierdie oogmerk te bereik, word 'n kongres waar verslag gedoen word oor navorsingsprojekte elke drie tot vier jaar georganiseer.
